20240419_zia_a189_001 April 19, 2024, Marseille, France: File photo dated March 18, 2005 shows Michelin logo in Marseille, France on March 18, 2005. After realizing that the minimum wage in its home country left some workers at breaking point, French tire-maker Michelin has taken matters into its own hands to give employees a hefty pay raise. Michelin is rolling out its own living wage to its 132,000 employees, the company said in a press release shared with Fortune and first reported by French publication Le Figaro. The 134-year-old group, which makes heavy-duty tires for construction and freight-handling companies, has set living wages for employees based on their location to correlate with living costs. The calculation for the living wage was also made based on what employees needed to provide for their familyâ??s â??essential needs. (Credit Image: © Holubowicz Gerald/Abaca/Zuma Press/Fotoarena)

52193867 In the heart of Berlin's bustling tech quarter, the iconic Apple Store on Rosenthaler Straße is a testament to the city's embrace of digital innovation. March 26, 2024, captures a contrasting scene where the sleek Apple logo, synonymous with global technological dominance, hangs over pedestrians, a stark reminder of the tech giant's current tribulations. Apple navigates tumultuous economic waters with heightened scrutiny from Washington and the European Union regulators. The E.U. Commission's recent enforcement of a hefty 1.8 billion euro fine against Apple, citing abuse of its dominant market position to distribute music streaming apps via its App Store, sends ripples through Berlin's tech scene. The Digital Markets Act, aimed at curtailing the market power of digital conglomerates and opening platforms to competitors, signals a seismic shift. The tech behemoths are at a regulatory crossroads, with penalties reaching up to ten percent of annual global turnover. Brussels whispers suspicions of these companies' insufficient efforts to comply with the new digital market law, igniting debates on the streets mirrored by the store's reflective façade.
